This meet-up will explore how we can take beautiful portraits using natural light and backgrounds. We will explore how to recognise flattering light and how to manipulate it whilst shooting in a less controlled environment than a studio. We will explore how we can work collaboratively with our subject to achieve a portrait that captures their personality and style. We will also look at posing and setting your subject at ease. Technical learning points will include accurate focusing and metering for skin tones.

Learn how to use the proper settings to capture a beautiful sunset.

Beyond just being a natural phenomenon, the setting of the sun symbolizes many things to a variety or people and cultures. The setting of the sun represents the completion of a day's work, so it represents the opportunity to rest.

Liverpool's Victorian Albert Dock area has seen many sailing ships berthed there during its long history. The colourful flags and ship's livery of this one attracted my attention, and I painted it from a photo later.

The beauty of watercolor pigments is that they are very versatile. Some colors are transparent, others are opaque. Some stain, others do not. Some even have granulating properties.?When watercolors are used without too much dilution, they create solid layers of color that completely cover up anything underneath. This piece demonstrates the opaque characteristics of certain pigments. Lilly was painted as a gift for a very fine gentleman who is also my friend.

My two sons both moved to Arizona for work and we missed them so much we immediately began trying to create a path for us to move to the Phoenix area. This painting was an attempt to paint desert themed flora to feel closer to them. We now live in a suburb of Phoenix and love the unique beauty found in the desert!
